Actress and musician Caitlin Crosby’s jewelry line The Giving Keys started with a “permanently borrowed” key from a New York motel that she had the word “LOVE” engraved on and wore around her neck. She got so many complements that she decided to start selling versions of them with words like STRENGTH, HOPE, FAITH, COURAGE, DREAM and FEARLESS at her shows.
Before she knew it, the key necklaces were selling out every night and a new business was born.
But she wanted it to mean more… and then she met Rob and Cera, a homeless couple, on the streets of Hollywood. After falling in love with their hearts and how hard they were working to try to change their lives, she realized that they were the missing link to The Giving Keys. So she made them her business partners, hiring them to engrave the keys and ship all the orders.
The Giving Keys are now sold at stores like Fred Segal and proceeds of the business have been used to keep Cera & Rob off the streets and for counseling, schooling and shelter. They plan to donate future proceeds to the shelters & transitional homes that were most effective in supporting Cera & Rob.
Not only did Rob start taking GED classes and pass with all A’s, he was then accepted into LACC in August 2011. Cera got a job at the San Diego Zoo and is now well on her way to her goal of becoming a massage therapist. All while continuing their work at The Giving Keys.
Cera and Rob have truly been able to change their lives and all because of a chance meeting on the streets of Hollywood! We love Caitlin Crosby for using fashion to help those in need!
